Birmingham Qualify for Nationals!

On 25th July we hosted Midlands Outdoor Regionals for the third year in a row, with 3 spots at Nationals up for grabs, we were looking to continue our strong season and qualify for Open Outdoor Nationals in August.

We fielded two teams at Regionals, with the seconds coming in as 9th seeds they endured a tough day against some of the stronger teams in the region. Eventually making their way to the 9v10 against a Regionals newcomer: Banbury Bigworms! A close run game with some long points saw Brum 2 come out on top to take 9th!

Using the overall tour rankings Brum 1 started out as the second seed in the region behind EMO, and breezed through pool play to make it to the semi finals.

Here we faced a decent Cambridge team that we had beaten at Tour 3, so we had reason to feel confident going in that we could make it to the final, and with it take a Nationals spot. Even with that being said we played a probably our best game of the day, never letting up and taking the game away from them convincingly, 13-4.

That result meant that we are heading to Nationals in Southampton!

That put us into the final against EMO for the Regional title. As is our way against the bigger teams, we started in a way that looked like we were expecting to lose the game… and by the time we realised we were in it, it was probably too late. They managed their lead well and always looked in control even though we did get a couple of breaks to make a game of it. They used the fast start to take a 12-8 win and the 1st Midlands seed to Nationals for the umpteenth time in a row.

And so to Nationals we go! With some of our Regionals absentees returning, we’ll be looking to cause a few upsets and push up the rankings as high as we can, keep a look out for updates.
